Learn Kaqchikel Mayan on your summer vacation!
Each summer Wuqu’ Kawoq | Maya Health Alliance hosts an intensive Kaqchikel language field school in highland Guatemala. Native Kaqchikel-speaking teachers plan the content and lessons for each class. Students work intensively with the teachers for 8 hours a day in immersive language-learning activities and one-on-one instruction.
The field school lasts for two weeks and all students stay with Kaqchikel families to continue their language learning into the evening and experience everyday life in Guatemala.
The field school was named in the same manner as Wuqu’ Kawoq. The name Kab’lajuj Ey refers to a date on the 260-day Mayan calendar which corresponds to the very first day of the 2010 course (June 7, 2010).
Kab’lajuj Ey will be of particular interest to NGO & health workers, linguists, & social scientists. Each Mayan calendar date contains one of the 13 numbers and one of the 20 days names. Kab’lajuj means “twelve” and the day name Ey means “the path.”
To learn more about Kab’lajuj Ey, please contact the Academic Coordinator Meghan Farley Webb (email@example.com).
The 2015 Field School will be June 1-12 in Tecpan, Guatemala.
