Waleska López Canú

Waleska is proudly Kaqchikel Maya from Patzun, Chimaltenango. She trained as an MD at the Autonomous University of Mexico and the University of San Carlos of Guatemala. She has worked extensively in Mexico and Guatemala for Ministry of Health programs to expand service coverage to rural areas. Her prior leadership experience includes managing a large team of providers delivering health care in dozens of rural communities in the Department of Chimaltenango. Waleska is a former fellow for Centroamérica Adelante, a prestigious and innovative leadership development program to support high-impact leaders driving change in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. She is a current fellow in the Central American Healthcare Initiative, which seeks to promote the administration and delivery of innovative and efficient medical care in Central America. She originally worked with Wuqu’ Kawoq in 2010-11 and returned to our team as Medical Director in 2014.

 

Waleska originalmete de Patzún, Chimaltenango y es orgullosamente Kaqchikel Maya. Recibió su doctorado de medicina de la Universidad Autónoma de México y completó su formación clínica en la Universidad de San Carlos en Guatemala. Waleska ha trabajado extensamente en México y Guatemala para que los programas de la Ministerio de Salud amplíen la cobertura a las áreas rurales. Su experiencia previa de liderazgo incluye la administración de un gran equipo de proveedores que prestan atención médica en docenas de comunidades rurales en el Departamento de Chimaltenango. Originalmente trabajó con Wuqu ‘Kawoq en 2010-11 y regresó a nuestro equipo en 2014.
